ATRESIA ANI : understanding, symptom, Cause, diagnosis, Treatment and complication
Atresia ani typically include abnormalities in areas of the body, including the abnormalities that occur in the digestive organs, urinary tract, to sex. Level anomalies also vary and are generally categorized as follows:
  • Abnormalities in the lower level. The form of the anal canal are narrowed or completely closed due to intestinal rectum is still attached to the skin. Anus closed generally accompanied by other birth defects, such as cardiovascular disorders, central nervous system problems, or anomalies in the hands and feet.
  • Abnormalities in the upper level. The position of the large intestine which is located in the upper pelvic cavity and the formation of a fistula connecting the rectum and bladder, urethra, or vagina. A fistula is an abnormal tunnel that exists between the two normal channels such as between blood vessels, intestines, or organs.
  • Posterior hole or persistent cloaca. In this disorder, rectum, urinary tract and vaginal opening meet on the same channel.

Causes and Risk Factors Atresia Ani

In normal conditions, anus, urinary and genital formed at eight weeks gestation through the process of division and separation of the walls of the digestive fetus. Disturbance during fetal development is what will trigger atresia ani.
The cause behind the development of the disorder is not known with certainty. Experts suspect that heredity or genetics may have a major influence behind the occurrence of these birth defects.

Diagnosis and Treatment Atresia Ani

Anal atresia can be diagnosed through ultrasound, but it is generally known at the first physical examination done when the baby is born. The doctor will examine the abdomen, genitals, anus, and spinal every newborn. If there are abnormalities in these parts, the doctor will then determine whether there are other types of birth defects experienced by the baby.
Early detection is urgently needed so that treatment can be done immediately. This type of procedure to be selected by the doctor depending on the type and severity of birth defects experienced by the baby. Baby's health condition will also be a major factor to be considered.
Babies who do not have the anal canal intake will be given intravenously. If there is a fistula formed in the urinary tract, the doctor will recommend the use of antibiotics.
Most of the anal canal closed requiring immediate surgery in order to form a drain for sewage. However, this operation has a high degree of difficulty due to the position of impaired organ is located deep in the pelvis. Not to mention the age factor very young baby so that the risk of complications also increased.
Post-surgery formation of the anal canal, which generally occur complications are constipation or fecal incontinence. To overcome this, the patient's diet of children should be guarded carefully. One way is to eat lots of fiber, such as vegetables and fruits. Foods that contain a natural laxative, such as dairy products, can also be used. In addition to the natural way, patients can be encouraged to use laxatives or laxatives and fiber supplements.

Complications Atresia Ani

Most complications can occur during surgery. When there is a fistula associated with the digestive tract, surgery can injure normal gastrointestinal wall. Hole-making operations substitute anus (colostomy) also contains the risk of polluting the urinary tract so that the risk of infection increases urinary organs.
Stenosis (narrowing) the artificial anus may also occur when the patient's skin has a tendency to form keloids (scar tissue). These conditions require restoration by surgery.
